DENYS SLIUSARENKO, ŠKODA AUTO UNIVERSITY STUDENT GOT AN INTERNSHIP IN BENTLEY
INTERVIEW:
Every year students of our university are offered an amazing opportunity to undertake an internship in one of the most expensive automobile brands – Bentley Motors Limited. And, after finishing my compulsory internship at ŠKODA AUTO, I tried my luck too. A new chapter in my life began after finding out that I was selected for an intern- ship placement in Bentley Purchasing department for the next six and a half months.
In Bentley, I became a member of a transport team that was responsible for car movements and was a part of general purchase department. My main responsibilities were arranging transport for vehicles and for emer- gency parts. Therefore, my role required daily communication with transport suppliers and Engineering and Logistics departments.
I was also involved in many processes within general purchase too. The most interesting and exciting job for me was helping buyers to purchase goods and services with a high value. Work included a lot of com- munication and negotiation with suppliers and Bentley customers to achieve the best cost and quality for the required acquisition. At the end all the outcomes needed to be presented to the head of purchase to get the final approval.
Due to constantly liaising with suppliers and my colleagues I improved my communication skills a lot and it also helped me to boost my self-confidence. My team was very nice and helpful to me too and I am very thankful to my colleagues as they made a huge contribution to my development by proving wise advice and support during my whole stay in Bentley.
Most of my free time in the UK was devoted to travelling and discovering England and its culture. During my internship I had time to visit Scotland, Wales and lots of amazing places and cities in England, such as Chester, Liverpool and Manchester. However, London was definitely one of my favourite places I have been to. As I am a big football fan I didn’t miss the chance to visit a few English Premier League football matches and I enjoyed them a lot. The atmosphere inside the stadium was amazing and I had never experienced something like that before. All in all England is very multicultural and ethnically diverse country and I think everyone will find there something for themselves.
For other students I would persuasively recommend to undertake an international internship as it is a great chance to gain a lot of unique experience and get invaluable knowledge that will be very useful for future career. It is also a nice opportunity make international connections and become familiarised with a new country and its culture.
